What the CMA's new rules will require of every practice

Following its market investigation into veterinary services, the CMA published its final report on 24 March 2026 and is due to make its legally binding Order by 23 September 2026. Under the CMA's stated remedies, every UK practice will be required to publish and maintain:

  • a published price list for core services, in the CMA's prescribed format;
  • written estimates for treatment expected to cost £500 or more;
  • itemised bills for treatment provided;
  • a formal complaints process, acknowledging complaints within 5 working days and resolving them within 8 weeks;
  • clear ownership disclosure, so clients know who owns the practice.

These duties phase in from late 2026 for the large corporate groups and through 2027 for most independent practices; some exemptions apply (including charities). This section describes the CMA's published timeline and applies to every practice — it is not an assessment of this practice.
